POSITION:  MEDICAL DEVICE REPROCESSING ASSISTANT

DEPARTMENT: MEDICAL DEVICE REPROCESSING DEPARTMENT

STATUS: PART TIME

SALARY: $23.79- $24.16

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The MDR Assistant will perform assigned duties in accordance with the departmental standards of practice, policies and procedures and may required to perform duties including but not limited to:

  • Decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, wrapping, sterilizing, and distributing patient care equipment, reusable supplies, instrumentation and additional support services as needed in a manner that adheres to guidelines and standards set by organizations such as CSA (Canadian Standards Association), PIDAC (Provincial Infections Diseases Advisory Committee), MDRAO (Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario) and Health Canada.
  • The MDR Assistant is also responsible for effectively communicating in a professional manner to other departments in order to ensure their reprocessing needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.

 

HOURS:

The successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department and be able to commit to the non-availability standards outlined in the Collective Agreement.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing educational program is required.
  • AND

    • Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (CMDRT) Certification; or
    • Commitment to obtain after the successful completion of 500 hours of specific medical device reprocessing work experience

    OR

    • Must possess a current MDRAO certificate with a commitment to complete the CMDRT Certification exam upon the expiry of your current MDR certificate and the completion of 4000 hours work experience in direct medical device reprocessing within the last five (5) years.

    PLUS

    • Minimum one (1) year of recent experience in the care and handling of surgical instruments and equipment, and operation of various types of sterilizers preferred.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of all methods of sterilization and chemical disinfection and principles of aseptic technique
    • Certificate in endoscopic scope reprocessing an asset
    • Ability to organize own workload in a fast paced environment, remain calm in emergency situations, and work with minimal supervision
    • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job
    • Acceptable performance record that is in alignment with STEGH’s values and code of conduct
    • Excellent attendance record in conjunction with STEGH’s Attendance Policy

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work. Any candidate entering the facility to attend an interview will be required to provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status. To be considered fully immunized, individuals need to have received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days earlier than the date they are arriving to an interview or to begin work at STEGH.
