POSITION:

SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
Community Stroke Team
Temporary Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Using the principles of person-centered care, the speech language pathologist is responsible for providing speech and language pathology services to referred clients with stroke in a variety of settings with a focus on swallowing disorders, cognitive impairment and attaining optimal communication and supported conversation abilities that relate to fostering independence in the home and a return to activities that are important to the client. The speech and language pathologist will also provide client-specific consultation and education/training/in-services related to stroke rehabilitation for service providers, caregivers and families.

Manager, District Stroke Centre

SALARY:
$39.31 to $50.09 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: - Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology
- A member in good standing of the College of Audiologists and Speech and Language Pathologists of Ontario.

Experience: - Clinical expertise and experience in stroke rehabilitation and demonstrated knowledge of current stroke rehabilitation best practices including management of dysphagia.
- Experience in both clinical and videofluoroscopic assessment of swallowing
- Experience in both hospital and community service delivery is an asset.
Abilities: - Demonstrated ability to practice effectively in an interprofessional collaborative environment.
- Sound understanding of the role of a variety of rehabilitation professionals in the provision of stroke rehabilitation.
- Working knowledge of and experience with theories and principles guiding adult learning and patient self-management approaches.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, problem-solving and innovation skills.
- Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative.
- Evidence of continued professional growth and/or professional development
- Appreciation of resource utilization.
- Computer skills, particularly Meditech, MS Office, and/or other software
- A valid Ontario driver’s license
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
