Description

The Communications Specialist plays a key role in developing and executing the company’s internal and external communication strategies. This position is responsible for creating compelling content, supporting effective and dynamic social and public media relations, and ensuring consistent messaging across all channels. The Communications Specialist works closely with hospital departments to promote the Lake of the Woods District Hospital’s (LWDH) brand, values, and objectives while fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, the media, and the public.

This position requires a proactive individual able to plan, anticipate needs and take responsibility for resolving matters efficiently and independently. The incumbent will bring to this role a high level of professionalism, composure, diplomacy and flexibility and will operate effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced office environment.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/degree in Public Relations, Government Relations, Communications, Journalism or related field of studies preferred
  • 2+ years of experience writing for a variety of audiences, styles and communication mechanisms. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • A storyteller first and foremost, with superior oral and written communications skills and demonstrated experience writing highly engaging content for internal and external audiences
  • Experience managing social media platforms, including content creation and reporting on social media reach/effectiveness
  • Proficiency with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) and graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with tools such as Hootsuite, SharePoint, Teams, and MS Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative and relationship-building skills
  • A problem solver who thrives on tackling challenges and creative solutions
  • Ability to respect confidential and sensitive subject matter and be diplomatic
  • Excellent time management skills and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure consistency in messaging
  • Understanding of corporate brand and following guidelines to maintain consistency across platforms
  • Experience communicating with a variety of audiences including. Internal and external stakeholders
  • A creative and innovative thinker with demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience in supporting, executing and measuring strategic communication plans
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Demonstrated initiative to identify/recommend improvements, and willingness to assume projects as assigned
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing continuing education and professional development
  • Ability to maintain composure and productivity in a fast-faced dynamic environment
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset
  • Demonstrated reliable attendance record
