POSITION: Technical Manager, Microbiology
Primary Site: Stratford

The Interhospital Laboratory Partnership (IHLP) Microbiology service is a regional testing laboratory based at Stratford General Hospital since consolidation of five microbiology laboratories into one in 2003. The Technical Manager, Microbiology is responsible for the daily operations and activities of this laboratory. The remainder of the Manager’s time is spent providing leadership in the management and provision of quality laboratory testing within HPHA and the IHLP. Ongoing liaison with the entire IHLP is key function of this role. Please refer to the IHLP website for more information www.IHLP.ca

REPORTS TO: HPHA Laboratory Operations Manager

DATE REQUIRED: As soon as possible

- A general medical laboratory technology background (ie. CSLMS) is an asset
- The successful candidate should hold a Bachelor of Science or higher degree in microbiology or health sciences
- Formal training in healthcare management is preferred

Experience/ Knowledge
- 5-10 years of progressive clinical laboratory professional/technologic experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory is required
- 3-5 years of progressive management experience in a hospital/clinical laboratory setting is preferred
- Member in good standing of a professional association(s) such as the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and/or Canadian Association for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (CACMID) is preferred

- Flexible, organized and self-directed
- Recognize trends in health care provision and management
- Formulate long range plans
- Organize work and set priorities
- Conduct meetings
- Prepare correspondence and reports
- Analyze problems and utilize the analysis to solve them
- Maintain good public relations within and outside the hospital
- Utilize available resources to achieve a goal
- Adapt to change
- Motivate staff and create a feeling of teamwork
- Interpret and apply policies, collective agreements, regulations and directives pertaining to the personnel function
- Ability to advise and counsel employees
- Computer Literate
